Question: My large plant of pyracantha has fire blight. The first is not serious to the health of the plant, but it can damage the look of the berries, which develop thick, brown corky spots on them. The other possibility is a bacterial disease called fireblight. The disease is easy to spot and effected leaves start to turn black and cracked as if it has been burnt by fire giving it its name Fireblight. New shoots wilt in late spring. Symptoms A necrotic blight of the flowers and rarely shoots. The cankers harbor the bacteria, which oozes from the lesion and is carried by wind, insects or rain to the healthy foliage.
